Fairphone 2 is a smartphone developed by Amsterdam-based social enterprise company, Fairphone. Sourcing

From sourcing conflict-free raw materials, shipping these raw materials from other countries to China, collaborate with local factory and provide friendly working environment for workers; the process from material to formation was carefully considered. Fairphone worked on outsourcing conflict-free minerals since they began their business and now they have conflict-free tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold from DRC, Rwanda and Peru; they tried their best to make sure that they could have better control in their raw materials.

Worker Protection

The workers get the minimum wage and overtime compensation for their pay and their working hours have been reduced to 60 hours a week.

Transportation

After factory completed products, finished products would be transported from China to Netherland by air which is not the best choice to control gas emission but due to the limitation of time, it is their last choice.

Product Design

The lifecycle of product itself was mindfully designed that whole smartphone could disassemble into different components; this modular design provides convenient and sustainable way to repair the phone and recycle phone components.
